The OVFL CLIL subgroup (Facilitator: Áine Furlong)

Who can join this group?

Anyone with an interest in CLIL, as well as reps from the languages initiative at second level, the NCCA, subject specialists with language interests, IBEC, and representatives from the Department of Education and Skills.

How can I join?
Email [email protected] or contact us here.

The OVFL CLIL subgroup will:
1. consider the various CLIL models in existence across Europe and draw up a list of these models in order to inform all education sectors in Ireland (this is about considering learning-in-context and what models might best suit the variety of contexts); consider what is in existence in Ireland

2. bring languages together in this venture, including Irish and ESL, to end the apartheid situation which exists in practice in our system (examples of current actions and ideas could be formulated)

3. make the most of the opportunities emerging from curriculum reform in Ireland (second level opportunities at Junior Cert and transition year levels + situation at primary level)

4. consider the opportunities at third level in Ireland. Target a CLIL discipline and work together on that discipline

5. look at the possibility of establishing clusters of teachers and lecturers at regional level to develop materials (much of the training can be done through materials development in specific disciplines)

6. generate a document to inform schools and third level of models and possibilities

7. generate in-career development

8. possibly, generate research projects on CLIL in Ireland
