Our letter to the DES regarding under-representation of third level institutions on FLAG

19/9/2018

One Voice for Languages, the inclusive and representative body for all languages across all education sectors, and IRAAL, the Irish Association for Applied Linguistics, wish to bring to your attention the current under-representation by language practitioners from Institutes of Technology and Universities on the Foreign Language Advisory Group.

We appreciate that currently the Teacher Training Sector is representing third level at FLAG. However, representation from other strands of third level education would be logical, especially since the Foreign Language Strategy envisages a substantial increase of students studying a modern language at third level. This increase is only feasible, if a broader spectrum of viewpoints from across third level language education is represented.

Hence, we would welcome the addition of colleagues from third level institutions to join FLAG and help make the 10-year-plan become reality.
