A framework for the four Junior Cycle Modern Foreign Languages is being developed which will have exponents relating to French, German, Spanish and Italian that will be introduced to first years in September 2017.
Junior Cycle MFL ConsultationFollowing an initial consultation on a Background Paper in 2015 (click here to access a report on the consultation), a draft specification for Junior Cycle MFL has been developed. It is presented as a framework for all four modern foreign languages - Italian, Spanish, French and German. Consultation on the draft specification is now open and it will run until April 22nd 2016. The NCCA would greatly appreciate your feedback on this specification.

Subject reviewTo provide a strong, representative and responsive basis for its curriculum and development work the NCCA has established development groups to undertake specific tasks in subjects. The Modern Foreign Languages Development Group consists of the nominees from a range of education stakeholders including teacher and management bodies, representatives of the four MFL teachers' associations, Department of Education and Skills, and the State Examinations Commission.
